The UNAIDS Regional Strategic Team in Latin America brings together the coordinated efforts and resources of all United Nations Cosponsor Agencies in support of the national response to AIDS, in harmonization with key stakeholders at different levels, striving to achieve Universal Access to prevention, treatment and care & support under the platform of the Three Ones and within a context off low HIV prevalence and a scenario of middle-income countries.

Under the supervision of the UNAIDS Regional Partnership Adviser, the UNAIDS Gender and HIV Programme Specialist provides technical support and works in close collaboration with the RST-LA team of advisors, the UNAIDS Country Coordinators (UCC), the UNAIDS Country Officers (UCO), the UNAIDS Women, Girls and Gender Equality Unit and UN Women, as well as the Latin American Interagency Working Group on Gender, to name a few.

 


EDUCATION

University Diploma or equivalent in public health, political, social sciences or related field.

EXPERIENCE

  • Knowledge of the HIV epidemic Latin America as well as global implications and how this affects gender roles and practices.
  • Understanding of the pertinent issues and developments in the field of HIV and gender, including gender-based violence and reproductive health and rights.
  • Up to 5 years of relevant experience at the regional level in providing management advisory services and hands-on experience in design, implementation and monitoring and evaluation of HIV programs.
  • Knowledge on Human Rights dimensions of HIV and gender.
  • Experience with development of information products and articles.
  • Experience in the use of computers and office software packages

LANGUAGES

Advanced knowledge in English and Spanish is required.

 FUNCTIONAL/TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Proven capacity to plan, manage, and monitor HIV and Gender programs
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and synthesize and develop draft quality briefings and reports and articles at short notice.
  • Ability to work with different partners ranging from government, civil society, People Living with HIV, women’s rights activists and advocates, to high level UN technical staff.
  • Computer literacy
  • Understanding of the UN system organizations
